Natural Herbs and Spices is managed and owned by the Neill family. The Neill’s (originally from Zimbabwe), moved to South Africa in 1982.  In 1985 Natural Herbs and Spices’ sister company, Exim International opened its doors. Exim International is a supplier of herbs and spices, casings and general requisites to the food and meat industries.

Natural Herbs and Spices was established in 2002 as a retail brand of good quality herb and spice products. The Neill family recognized that consumers were looking for herb and spice products for use in their homes, that aren’t irradiated and didn’t contain any preservatives. The grinders and shakers range of Natural Herbs and Spices was launched in 2002, with the dippers, rubs and instant pestos extending the range, in 2007.

Natural Herbs and Spices have had unprecedented success in Africa, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, United States of America, United Arab Emirates, Netherlands, Australia and Malaysia. What is the Natural Herbs and Spices recipe for success? When asked, Mark Neill one of the directors claims it is just the classic combination of excellent quality products in great packaging offered to the consumer at a competitive price.

Natural Herbs and Spices and Exim Spices (a branch of Exim International) facilities are HACCP accredited by SABS, Halaal certified by the Muslim Judicial Council of South Africa and Kosher certified by the Beth Din of South Africa. In 2006, Natural Herbs and Spices main supplier, Exim Spices became the first company in Africa to commission a Steam Lab (see steam treatment). “Food safety is a priority in our factory, without compromising our ‘Natural’ ethos” says Gary Neill, “To achieve the highest standards of food safety we have a state-of-the-art steam-treatment plant, which allows us to reduce the amount of micro-organisms on all our products naturally, without affecting the high quality of the herbs and spices used.”

Herbs and Spices are preservative and M.S.G. free!  No ingredients used in a Natural Herbs and Spices product are irradiated!
